JULY 2014

Dear Members

At the recent National Conference Weekend June 21 2014 the results of the Committee of Management election was announced.

Denise Rule, a member of the committee for the past 18 years, did not re-stand. On behalf of all members I congratulate Denise on the Honorary Life Membership conferred on her at the Society Annual General Meeting. Denise’s role on COM was on Editing, and as Editing Chair, she oversaw the production of studbooks volumes 8 – 18. Thank you Denise.

The Society has three new Committee of Management members. Congratulations to Jackie Maple (NSW), Kathryn Mitchell (SA) and Kym Shingleton (WA).

Sincere thanks to Alice Austin and Louise Colthorpe for their contributions to the committee and all the best for the future. Alice and Louise have both offered to continue in their roles as Young Judges coordinator, and Sires Rating coordinator respectively.

Society Young Ambassador 2013 – 2015, Miss Hayley Jones of Euroa, Victoria gave a presentation to members summarising the first year of her role, and her plans for the coming year.

Society President for 2013 – 2015, Mr John While chaired the Annual General Meeting. John and Hayley have attended many events throughout the year and have offered to assist with information for younger members at the various events they attend in the coming show season.

Julia Battams was the keynote speaker. Julia successfully led the Para-equestrian Dressage team for the London 2012 Paralympic Games, and is the National Performance Director for Dressage & Para-equestrian Dressage for 2013-2016

Members and guests also had the opportunity to listen to Mark Dean of Project Hope, and Tony Webster of Affinity Insurance discuss the roles of their organisations. Chris Milvain also gave a talk on how to provide photos in a suitable format for publication. Thank you to all our speakers.

An item on the AGM Agenda was a special resolution, proposing amendments to the Society Rules. The proposal to amend the voting procedure for COM did not pass. The proposal to amend several other rules passed. The Rules are available on the Society website or from the National Office.

With the coming foaling and showing season not far away, I wish all members a successful season and a mild winter.

Kind regards

Michele Baker
