With the breeding and showing season in full swing, it is an exciting and rewarding time of year. Thank you to members who assist with and support the many Society events throughout Australia.
BRANDING & MICROCHIPPING – SOCIETY STUDBOOK REGULATIONS
Many members have queried the Society branding regulations due to welfare concerns as well as the requirement for microchipping with other organisations and / or due to disease outbreaks such as EI and Hendra.
During the Committee of Management (COM) meeting held on September 30 2013, the COM approved an amendment to Society regulations regarding the requirement for animals to be branded.
As of 1/8/2013 animals registered with the WPCS Australia Inc. may be branded (fire or freeze) or microchipped or a combination of both methods of identification.
Members must include the microchip number sticker on registration applications.
** Please note that any animals born prior to the 1/8/2013 are still required to be branded before the age of one year, and before sale of the animal.
** For reciprocal animals please refer to the Society Studbook Regulations.
SWABBING AT EVENTS
All exhibits must compete drug free. Swabbing will take place at a Society event during the current show season (1/8/13 – 31/7/2014). The swabbing program is based on EA procedures.
- **Please refer to Show Regulation no. 35
Members are reminded that application for Stallion Registration must be made before a colt attains the age of four years, and not before two years of age. Failure to do so will incur penalty fees. It is strongly recommended that colts are stallion registered before they cover mares.
The Society Studbook Regulations have been reviewed to ensure they are easily understood. The amended regulations are available by clicking here.
I wish all members a safe foaling season. It is an exciting time of the year.
